A Survey of Nanchong Professional Technic College

    Ratified by Sichuan provincial government and registered in the Ministry of Education, Nanchong Professional Technic College is a regular state-run institution of higher learning for full-time students. It is situated on the Jialing River in Nanchong, the central city in north-east Sichuan .
     The college occupies an area of 1,580 mu with a floorage of 150,813 square metres. With green trees shady, flowers blossoming and birds singing, the campus is very beautiful and agreeable. The present property of the college reaches to 120,000,000 yuan(RMB),of which there are 21,100,000 yuan’s worth of teaching apparatus and equipments,1,440 sets of late-model computers, and 400,000 library books. It has a teaching staff of 313 full-time teachers, among whom there are 90 associate professors, 154 lecturers and engineers, and 75 teachers with practical vocational skills. It also engages 2-3 foreign teachers and 42 high-level technicians for guiding the students in work and skill practice.
     With an enrollment of 10,000 from all over the country, the college has jurisdiction over 8 teaching departments：Electromechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Economy Management, Foreign Languages, Agricultural Science and Technology, Humanistic Arts, Civil Engineering, and Elementary Education. It also has an experimental foreign language school, an attached junior secondary school, and an attached kindergarten.
     While taking the regular junior college education as primary importance, the college is open to adult education for college academic certificate and secondary vocational education, and offers professional training courses for primary and middle school teachers, administrative personnel in education, and other people for vocational skills. It is well equipped with many completed modern installations and facilities for teaching and practice, totaled 60, including: a technology centre for modern education, a numerical control centre, a prefabricate mill, a breeding stock farm, an auto maintenance workshop, a gardening farm, a printing house, etc. And authorized by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education as a training-base-project unit for vocational education of computer utilization technology, it also serves as a career training base for the rural youth in Sichuan, and a further education center for middle school teachers in Nanchong.
     To serve the students and help them to full employment, the college has set the goal of training and cultivating qualified secondary and higher practical professional personnel in the fields of business, production, construction, management, and service. It is now working on the building of training bases for characteristic specialties, curriculum system, and professional skills practice, and, with advanced teaching means and approaches, making efforts on the growth of the following key specialties: Design and Manufacture of Pattern Dies, Business English, Computer Information and Management , Tourism Management and Hotel Service, Home Economic Service, Cost of Construction Project, and Gardening Technology. The college is entitled to set up a state examination centre for the appraisal of the vocational and technical abilities, the grades of computer operation, the ATA, the levels of college common foreign languages, and the common spoken Chinese, etc.
     The striking features of our running the college are the combination of school learning with production practice and the cooperation between college and enterprises. Quite a few companies, including Hongkong Leo Paper Group, have signed long term agreements with us for jointly running the college. The graduates from the specialties of Business English, Computer Information and Management, Design and Manufacture of Pattern Dies, etc. are much appreciated by their employers, which has been a highlight in the circle of the provincial vocational education. The college attaches much importance to the employment of the graduates, who had signed with the college the contract for employment after they were enrolled. The college now can furnish the students a broad stage for wits display, since it has built up a wide net-work for employment and established long-term friendly cooperation relations with many large enterprises and local interflow centers of qualified personnel, such as Hongkong Leo Paper Group, Hongkong Zhengtai Group, Japan Ricoh(Shenzhen) Corperation, Beijing Dixingtong Commercial Corperation, Shanghai Xiehen Information Technology Corperation, Shenzhen Qiwei Company, Taiwan Hongzhun Precision Pattern Dies Corperation, the Hope Group etc. In recent years, the primary employment rate has reached over 95% for the secondary and higher technical graduates; their monthly salary is 800-1200 yuan(RMB) and 1200-2000 yuan(RMB) respectively.
     Insisting upon the idea of “Orienting our work to the needs of the students, holding the goal of college development to the highest”, the college sets up a harmonious campus. It offers the students subsidies and scholarship from the state、province and college funds, and Hongkong Zhengtai Group, Hongkong Leo Paper Group, Beijing Dixingtong Commercial Corperation, and Shanghai Xiehen Information Technology Corperation also annually provide a scholarship fund of over 800,000 yuan(RMB).
